Intellect Telecom (www.i-tc.ru), AFK Systema Research and Innovation Center and Nokia Siemens Networks, the global telecommunication services provider, have entered into an agreement with the aim of creating a joint research and development center within the Systema-Sarov science park.
Under the agreement, Intellect Telecom and Nokia Siemens Networks will have a 51% and 49% interest, respectively. The research and development will focus on areas key for the Russian telecoms market, including advanced cellular communication technologies, satellite navigation, telematics, testing, and system solution support. The new center is expected to employ up to one hundred people.
Yuri Gromakov, general director of Intellect Telecom, said: “As international experience shows, combining the efforts of research institutions and equipment providers contributes to increased business efficiency for both parties. Our solutions and technologies will be further developed and promoted within the vendor’s product lines, building on the experience of Nokia Siemens Networks. The location of the joint center within the Systema-Sarov science park will allow us to use the strong intellectual potential of this region.”
Stanislav Rodionov, head of CBT Sistema at Nokia Siemens Networks, noted: “Nokia Siemens Networks are watching closely the process of developing Russia’s scientific and research capabilities in the area of telecommunications. Undoubtedly, Russia has unique intellectual resources, and Intellect Telecom is a clear sign of that.
